My friend doesn't have a Yahoo account so i'm asking for her. But basically she wants to dye her hair a really light blonde..her hair is currently brown which is around her natural colour and has been black and red in the past so we were wondering if it would cause any major damage to her hair even though she hasn't dyed it in ages..
Also, does anyone have any suggestions about dyeing hair white blonde effectively? as she is worried it will go ginger!

you never can tell what color your hair is going to come out. i like mine a whiteish blonde also. I just add highlights every month until its a pretty whiteish blonde color. works for me anyway. although it will have a few other darker blonde highlight going through it also. they just make it look even better though.

I would tell your friend to get it done professionally, I recently tried to dye my roots myself and they now look ginger and the rest of my hair is blonde! Think i'll make an appointment at the hairdressers he'll kill me when he see's it but I was skint !!

When messing with bleach-you want a professional to do it. ESPECIALLY if you are going from dark to light. In order to get it to that clean platinum color you must strip the hair first, which causes damage-and then put in the bleach.
I would just go to a salon. honestly.

i think that dying is okay, but she should make sure that she uses an intensive conditioner atleast weekly, many people want to go blonde wich it great, but the poroxide that makes the hair blone can damage her hair. if she wants her hair dyed effectively she should go to a proper hair dressers, not buy a cheap home kit.

YES it will cause MAJOR damage...bleaching/dying your hair that is brown or any other color to the point that it is bleach blonde will ruin your hair no matter how long it has been since you have dyed it. Trust me I have dyed my hair sooo many times and dying it blond strips it of its color and moisture and everything. If you decide to go blonde anyways than do it GRADUALLY...get highlights every month or so and soon you will end up blonde...do not go and dye it all at one time you will probably loose a lot of hair due to breakage. I used to have jet black hair only it started to go grey at an early age so at first I had streaks only the grey became more patchy in big clumps so now I dye it blonde. It would depend on her hair type if it is fine I think going to the hairdressers is better if it is thick then shouldn't be a problem only do a strand test. I have had some disasters with mine going orange. My hair is very thick and now I use Nice'n easy by Clairol in Natural Ultra Light Ash Blonde and it works and looks good. Yeah it would cause damage if its from a bottle, best thing is for her to go to a hairdressers and get it professionaly done. Doing it from a bottle is very damaging especially with blonde as it has harsher chemicals in it. It also stops the risk of bits of it turning orange,yellow and white and look bad all together.

to be honest the amount of money she will pay buying the bleaches and other products to get it the right colour she would be better of going to a salon after that she should be able to re-do her roots herself

absolutley do not attempt to dye your hair at home, specially as it seems your mate wants quite a drastic change. book an appointment at a hair salon and have a consultation with someone who works there. depending on how dark ur friends hair is they may start by weaving a few blonder highlights through or adding a few flashes, please dont do it at your house, i made that mistake and i looked like goldilocks, go to the salon salon salon :) good luck to ur friend
