In principle, once a hair follicle starts generating gray hair, it cannot go back to making black hair anymore. A type of cells, called melanocytes, produce pigments (e.g. melanin) that give hair its color. When the melanocyte stem cells (cells that actually make melanocytes) die, hair turns gray.
BUT this's what happened to me. Some 10 yrs back, I located one stand of hair which appeared gray to me. Instead of plucking, I just snipped it off. And it never came back. Now I don't have any explanation for this. :)
