I have two kittens but one of them has really long white hair and sheds alot. Do you believe it would be cruel or wrong to just get the same contraption they use for sheep and use it on a kitten. By the way my kitten isn't that small anymore. I apreciate your opinion.

Do you mean morally wrong, or wrong like it's a horrible thing to do? Probably not the nicest thing to do for the poor kitty- especially since it's still pretty cold and if you cut off all its fur it might mess with it's shedding later on. Try just brushing it. Or, if you really want to fix the fur problem, take it to a groomer.

Or, you could give it a cut like a poodle. Which would be hilarious! (Kidding, animal lovers. Please don't lynch me!)

You should take the procation of at lest knowing that your cat may have a little shock because of it. I did that to my very hair , and knotty feline last year and she seemed to like it.

Honestly I kind of think that it would. However, if you feel that this is something that can't be avoided and is really becoming a nuisance you could probably take your kitten to an animal groomer they can fix it to where the cat wont shed as much by thinning out their hair.

There is also this strange looking thing that goes on your hand with these little things on it that kind of looks like a brush you just rub it on the kitten and it will take the excess hair off of it to prevent it from shedding. I'm sorry that I can't tell you what this thing is called, because I don't remember it was a while back when I seen it. It was one of those ads that they show on TV to sale it to you from there. I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself. If you get something like this done, get a professional to do it. I used to have a cat with very long, very fine hair, an I used to take her to the groomers to get her groomed. It's called the "lion cut" and it's actually kinda cute once you get used to it. I don't think it's cruel at all, as long as you get someone who knows what they're doing to do it, and don't try it yourself.

Go to the groomer and when you have a long hair cat - they are gonna shed - try brushing her.

I don't believe in shaving a cat - but if you must, at least let the groomer do it.

I wouldn't recommend shearing your cat down to the skin. In addition to being an uncomfortable process, your cat's fur is functional and removing it all will leave him vulnerable to heat changes, scratches, etc.

However, trimming a long haired cat so its fur is comparable to a short haired one would be fine, but make sure the process is as comfortable as possible for your cat. Take it slow and reward during and after the clip.

Some of you that are saying no have not been in my situation. I have a fairly obese cat that has a hard time cleaning himself. His fur had gotten so pasty and stuck that it seemed like the only thing to do. The vet said that the fount sweat pockets that had been stuck around his neck since he is fat and lots of fur that shaving him actually helped him to breath better. To shave for looks not a fan even though he did look like a cute lion after being shaved.

A cats fur regulates its body temperature. It keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. You can shave them but its a extreme way of ending the hair problem. Try a brushing session every day . My long haired cats love it. It I want their attention I just run my fingers over the bristles of the hairbrush and they hear it and come running. It is a good way to maintain a active relationship with your cat. Cats do it in mutual grooming sessions.
