Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age.

I m a singaporean student and i admit here many of us are very stress!!!!! eg. because of a major exam, i study hard for it and because of it, i had to wear spectacles, lol but because we are always label as "kiasu", whoch most of us are, as a small countries without natural resoures, the running of the country will be on us the people, so thats why we tend to work harder as we dont want to lose out and so we become stress and have white hairs and spectacles at so young age as the future lies on us young singaporeans

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

they work hard!!!

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

They are worrying that they wont win the duck race...

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

This is very hurtful question.I am from Singapore and yes,I had white hair since I was 12 years old.I did not know why , I was born with it.I wear hat on the street all the time until I got into my school ,then I have to take it off.I still have tear in my eyes when I remember it...

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

I think anyone who lives in the today's world, with the increasing stress from school and parents, problems at home, and having a TV and Xbox at home, white hairs and spectacles are inevitable.

Cheers!

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

All of them ?

Don't you think you are genralizing a little?

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

mad duck race

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

They do appear to be a little too uptight %26amp; all *no offense*

I guess it's down to their hectic lifestyles.

Just walking through rush hour traffic especially on the street or the MRT, everyone's in a hurry pushing their way through.

Education is regarded highly there.

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

It is because we all live in a highly competitive environment whereby everyone is constantly being pushed to excel. Society judges people mostly by their merits and achievements, such as education levels or if they are able become scholars. Besides, acdemic achievements, kids are also pressured into attaining other skills such as computers knowledge or music. During their free time, kids stress themselves out, playing computer games. The high stress faced by most youngsters today, caused their white hairs.

In addition, about 70% of all Singaporeans live in Government Funded apts called HDB. These apts are build rather small, thus kids have to sit closer to the television. Thus causing their eye-sight problems. The kids are also "encouraged" to read more, thus some read in bed or in public transport, thus enhancing their eye-sight problems.

It is hard to find a carefree child in Singapore these days.

Common Singaporean thought:

1) White Hair - can dye black...if you have money...

2) Poor eye sight - can go for corrective surgery...if you have money...

3) Poor knowledge - cannot do any things cos you don't have money....

Cheers...

unlike those in the west, people in singapore actually work.

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

My grandfather, father and myself started to have white hair since teenage. So it is in the genes!

As for spectacles, the problem is likely to be the type of lightings at home. I think white fluorecent is bad for the eyes.

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

I'm Singaporean and 30. I have a few white hairs which are cleverly concealed beneath my healthy dark brown hair, and I have perfect eyesight. Why do you waste time asking over-generalising questions? Are you obviously dumb or just plain rude? And the correct way to say it is: "at SUCH a young age".

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

I am Singaporean and am 23years old. I do not have a single strand of white hair so far although I am shortsighted.

White hair appearing on young persons could be due to genes. It can also be due to stress etc. Being shortsighted would probably mean poor reading habits or over-straining of the eyes (among other reasons).

Yes I do admit that Singaporeans are a hardworking lot...and we tend to overdo it at times. But that I believe, is because of our drive to improve ourselves, keep up with the rest of the world and allow our little country to stay competitive and prosper. As our country's natural resources are close to nil, we only have ourselves to depend on.

Your question highlights your lack of common knowledge (i.e. like a little frog in the well) and zero sensitivity to others (i.e. rude).

p/s: not to mention bad grammar

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

We work hard, thinks harder, read fine prints even more, that's why we are short-sighted and having white hair

Singaporeans.. please tell me why you all obviously have white hairs and spectacles at so young age..?

Very OBVIOUSLY you are not a Singaporean. We obviously do not asked dumb question. You must be from a insensitive neighbouring country who thinks highly of yourself.

Happy to say, we are up here looking down at you...ha! We are obviously at a level you will never reach. Different league. How sad...

Singapore kids faces stress at early age in school and also from parents. School work is hefty and never-ending, and holiday assignments pile up eventhough it is the time to relax and get out from school life. Singapore parents are very education-minded. They want their kids to learn stuff from outside school (such as music, dance, drawing etc.). So these poor kids have to handle school life as well as the activites arranged by the parents at tender age.

Naturally, the white hairs frizzles out...and spectacles on their tiny faces. Unfortunately, not ALL Singaporeans have white hair...if you do know how to balance your life with sports and stress relieving activities, you are free from white hairs and spectacles.

Try asking the ga-veh-men....

Maybe they will come up with a co-op scheme with some insurance companies to provide dyeing of hair till 65.

Or maybe it is just the department that plans the education that is to be blame...

Heck i guess it is just luck...

Well, I'm a Singaporean and I can see the very large marginal difference between the Singapore school system and the US school system, as I have moved back and forth(due to my father's job).

In Singapore, education is very... stressing. Streaming and PSLEs are quite challenging, which can make students stress from trying to reach a high academic level.

In the US, education is a bit less stressing. In Singapore, I believe they learn faster. The US system teaches multiplication and division by 4th grade, at a pace that is slower. Singapore's school system teaches multiplication also at, I think, Primary 4. But the things taught are at a higher level.

The Singapore school term lasts from January to December, while the US school term lasts from about early September to late May.

Some of this information may be wrong because I have not studied in Singapore for a long time.

I was always lazy and never did my homework when I was in Singapore though. I did listen, but never bothered to finish it.
