40 volume is very strong, much more so than 20- just please be careful! When I was in beauty school, my mannequin lost globs of hair after I "platinumed" her with bleach and 40 volume. I don't know how strong your hair is, what color, so I cannot give a lot of advice. Only be careful; the longer you leave it on the more damage it does, and sometimes it still doesn't get white. Good luck....

Well...that would depend on your natural level of hair color. If you hair has been previously colored you will definatly need to color your hair in stages because there are many levels of color that hair needs to get through in order to achieve blonde. 40 volume will lift but beware...if your hair is dark it will turn orange. I would suggest going to a lighter brown beofre attempting a blonde.

I wouldn't advise trying it yourself - Go to the hairdresser.

It is impossible to say not knowing your natural hair colour.

Peroxide is very nasty stuff and 40% sounds dangerous.

There may be a possibility of having a catastrophe - hair may go orange, green or just break off.

Why would you get 20 volume? Adding 20 volume to 40 volume doesn't make 60 volume, it just cuts the strength of the 40 volume. I really hope that you knew that, or you definitely shouldn't be doing your own hair. And regarding whether 40 volume is strong enough? There's really no way to know without knowing the porosity and density and texture and color of your hair, but you're not going to get anything stronger than 40 volume, you're just going to have to do it twice. I'm actually very worried for you, I think you're either going to end up with broken hair or yellow hair. This should really be left to a pro.

Oh my goodness! Be very careful with your hair. One of my very good friends does that and I have to say her hair isn't very good hair. I guess that's how you could put it. Anyway just be careful. That's all I have to say.

I really strongly suggest that you do not attempt this at home. 40 vol is like rocket fuel. Bleaching properly is much more difficult than most people think. Although this sounds fun, platinum hair is high maintenance and look awful when it is not kept up with. Best of luck.

You need 40 vol mixed with bleach to lighten and then a toner afterwards to get the platinum effect bt seriously it is better to invest in a trip to a hair salon and get this done PROFESSSIONALLY!Otherwise it may go YELLO or uneven.Trust me I know what I am talking about! The worst case scenario is your hair becomes over processeed and falls out-so if you want a radical change to your colour particularly depending on how dark you are now get advice first.

I suggest that you use a 30 volume with bleaching powder as well. The peroxide isnt enough to do it on its own. I do my hair and it is really beautiful. I have dark brown hair so a 40 works for me. If you have dark hair, then use a 40. You can do it at home, but you should have a friend assist you, someone you trust mind you. You must wash your hair with Shimmer Lights shampoo to make your hair white. The more times you wash it with this shampoo the whiter it gets. If you want it more platinum, you add a platinum dye that you can by at Sally Hansens or wherever you bought your other hair products. Most girls are scared to use bleach at home because it does damage your hair if it is not used correctly. And most women have to worry about their long hair that they cannot just cut off and start all over with. As a male you have the advantage that your hair is short and it grows out and you could just cut it off if you dont like it. But the Shimmer Lights will give you that platinum, white shine you want.

What color r u using? If its bleach u can get 6-7 levels of lift.Dont put it on your scalp til last...the warmth of your head will make it process faster and it'll be lighter. Why dont you take a small section and test it out?

If your hair is naturally dark, then you will be unlikely to get a platinum blonde colour in one go. If you attempt to colour it from a base shade of medium dark brown or darker, you will only achieve an orangey colour as all it will do is expose your underlying pigment.

If you are dark blonde then it is possible but use a powder lightener rather than peroxide.......Use a goldwell product called Oxycur Platin Ultra....This contains ABSOLUTELY no peroxide, It can be used on or off scalp......and gives maximumlift from your base level.

You need to give more information when you ask your Q's hun, there are so many determining factors, i.e. previous colour treatments, condition of hair, porosity, texture, any grey...............

Its not as simple as slapping on a product and hoping for the result you want....Sorry.

Is 40 Volume Peroxide Enough To Get Platinum Blonde Hair?

it all depends on

1, if you have colour on your hair already - as this will affect the outcome

2, if you have re-growth if u already have colour

3, if your hair is virgin hair, what base is it

you need to provide more information.

If you had very dark hair that had been dyed then i do not recommened doing it yourself

If your hair is very light anyway then u should only be using 20 vol

I suggest u go to the hairdressers

Depends what colour your hair is now honey but dont use 40vol for full head application!!!!!!!!!! You'll burn your head!!!! 40vol should be used with foils and meches for partial lightening!

My natural color is quite dark and I have had platinum blonde hair for over 30 years. What my hairdresser uses is a poduct called 'Blonde Dimension' which is a powder bleach and uses a 40 volume ProOxide which is kinder to your hair. It comes out perfect every time. I have it done every 3 weeks like clockwork. Hope this helps.
