The greater the amount of the pigment, the darker the hair will be. As the amount of melanin lessens, the hair color varies from black to brown or rust or blond. If hair contains no melanin at all, it looks shiny white.
Graying does not mean that the hair dies. In fact, the visible portion of all hair is already dead. Each hair extends below the skin surface. This end is called the bulb and is the only living part. The bulb functions as the hair factory. When hair is formed by a rapid division of cells in the bulb, it absorbs melanin, which is produced by pigment cells. For that reason, if the pigment cells stop producing melanin, the hair will be white.
Quite honestly,there is no medicine in the world,when taken internally can stop greying hair or turning them to black.If so one can be the richest man on the earth immediadly.however If the cause is known and they are greying prematuraly that can be slowed down but cannot be stopped.I would appreciate the others to comment and inform about their success.

Some of it is genetic but I have also heard from a doctor that if a person is lacking folic acid in their diet it may cause them to go prematurely grey.

But never fear there is a cure,loving care,Loreal,nice n easy.those are just a few of the different brands of hair color.Take care not to buy any hair color that is in the "ash group" like golden ash brown etc.These tend to turn your hair a redish orange color especially if exposed to the sunlight.If you just want to experiment there are hair colors that will wash out after 1 or 2 shampoos.Learn the difference from hair color and hair dye,hair color has no peroxide and washes out in a couple of weeks.Hair dye contains peroxide and is a permanent treatment( but you have to keep dying the hair as it grows!
